XLR Patchbays
I have three preamp strips for a total of 24 channels and all but 2 of the connectors are in the back, which is SUPER annoying.
I had lots of XLR connectors from when my studio was split across two rooms and I built wall panels to connect them, so there was no way I was going to pay for a patchbay. Why not just buy a bit of aluminum angle iron, cut it on the table saw, and join it together? And I've always wanted to try my hand at riveting.
A few hours into soldering I almost regretted it, but pushed through. I even finished soldering a second one once I recovered from the tedium.
